Sunflower



I remember driving on a long, dusty road,
past a dry field full of sunflowers,
heads turned to face the ground.

Such a vivid memory,
brought back to life in technicolour,
high definition and surround sound.

A hot and lazy day,
the deserted surroundings made for a carefree
and relaxing time. I was at ease.

The raindrops thump against my window,
to snap me out of my daydream.
I am in a cold, dark room on my own.

I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror,
a haggard figure, unshaven face, unkempt hair.
My head turns to face the ground.
